📍 Location: Above Bakarac, near the Adriatic Highway, Croatia
Just a 20-minute drive from Rijeka and 10 minutes from the historic town of Bakar, this hidden viewpoint rewards visitors with breathtaking, wide-open views over Bakar Bay and the surrounding coastal mountains.
The Bakarac viewpoint is one of those small Croatian treasures where nature, history, and sea views meet. From Zagreb or Dalmatia, drive the A1/A6, exit near Kraljevica/Bakarac, and follow signs to the coast. From Istria, the scenic D8 coastal road takes you straight there, while from Rijeka it’s just a short drive east. Look for parking spots by the roadside and walk up to the viewpoint—it’s peaceful, uncrowded, and especially magical at sunset.
Unlike typical roadside stops, it’s not directly on the highway. After passing Bakarac village, watch for a sharp bend and turn left onto an unmarked road. The asphalt quickly turns to gravel, winding uphill through Mediterranean scrub and pine forest 🌿🌲. The final section is unfenced with a steep drop, so caution is needed, especially with children. Those who make the short, careful walk are rewarded with one of the most peaceful and picturesque views in Kvarner. ✨
