📍 Location: Northwestern Croatian Littoral
Some places don’t need detours — they simply appear when you need them. 🌿 Gornje Jelenje is one of those stops. Nestled between forests and cliffs, this roadside viewpoint offers raw mountain beauty. The area lies near the Rječina River’s deep canyons and under the Grobnik Alps, with a hiking route leading up to Risnjak National Park (1,528 m peak). The viewpoint is only 5 metres from parking, easily reachable by car, though not wheelchair accessible.
From Dalmatia (Split, Zadar, Šibenik), drive north on the A1, exit near Novi Vinodolski, and take the scenic inland roads toward Škrljevo, winding through forests and villages. From Istria (Pula, Rovinj, Poreč), cross the Učka tunnel and head toward Rijeka, then leave the main road for the quieter mountain route to Gornje Jelenje. From Zagreb or continental Croatia, take the A6 toward Rijeka, exit near Fužine or Oštrovica, and follow the winding inland road through the Grobnik hills to the Gornje Jelenje viewpoint.
